The Chichibu Meisen stole featured on BS Ippin is back in stock!

From Chichibu City, Saitama Prefecture, Meisen Stole from Meisen Orimoto Shinkei Textile's original brand ``Hataoto'' is back in stock. This is a 100% silk stole that was previously introduced on the BS Ippin (August 9, 2020) program.

Meisen is a kimono that was all the rage as a fashionable everyday wear for women during the Taisho and Showa periods, and is woven using a technique called ``hogushiori.''

This technique, which uses ``yarn-dyed stencil dyeing,'' involves many steps and is difficult to mechanize, so even today, the dyeing process is still carried out by artisans with great care and time, and woven using traditional half-wooden looms. Nowadays, there are only a few craftsmen who have this skill, and silk fabrics have become valuable.

Loose weaving process [Warping] Arrange the required number and length of warp threads and wind them onto a drum.

[Temporary weaving] Run the warp threads on a loom to roughly weave them.

[Textile printing] The tentatively woven warp threads are spread out on a printing table, pattern-dyed, steamed to fix the dye, and then dried.

[Main weaving] The pattern-dyed warp threads are run on the loom again, and the temporary weaving threads are loosened to perform the main weaving.

Hataoto's stoles are made from thin, wide cloth woven using the same technique as Meisen.
The special feature is that the thread is dyed to the core, so there is no front or back. You can enjoy the deep color tones and soft pattern expression created by the dyed patterns on the warp threads overlapping the weft threads.

The type that has arrived this time uses pure silk for the warp and hand-pulled cotton, which has excellent heat retention, for the weft. It has a gentle texture that won't make your skin feel cold even in the cold season, so it can be used all year round, not only in winter, but also as a sunshade and air conditioner in summer.
